Get Free Tickets to Almost 500 Different Museums
Smithsonian Magazine’s Annual Museum Day returns this Saturday, September 17, 2022. Hundreds of cultural institutions and museums across the country open their doors for free to anyone with a Museum Day ticket. It is anticipated that over 100,000 tickets will be given away giving people across the country an opportunity to experience world class exhibitions at no charge.
Smithsonian magazine, a publication of the Smithsonian Institution, started Museum Day in 2005 to celebrate the magazine's 35th birthday. According to Amy Wilkins, chief revenue officer for Smithsonian Media, Museum Day “gives us a way to provide people valuable access to these incredible gems that could be right in their backyard, but they have not had the opportunity to take advantage of.”

How to Get a Free Museum Day Ticket
To participate, simply visit the Museum Day website. Click the “Get a Ticket” button at the top of the page. Type in the museum you want to visit or search for one by zip code or state. Simply provide your name and email address to download your ticket.
Know Before You Go
Each ticket allows free entry for 2 visitors.
If you’re unable to download your ticket, don’t worry. A copy will be emailed to you using the email address you used to request the tickets.
Some museums will accept tickets on your smartphone, but others will require tickets to be printed. Your ticket should specify if you need a hard copy.
Be sure to check all pandemic protocols including mask requirements and proof of vaccination for the museum you choose before visiting . For information about coronavirus-related precautions and requirements, call or visit the museum’s website. Contact information for most museums can be found on the Museum Day website.
Participating museums have the right to limit entry if they reach capacity. Some are also limiting the number of free tickets available. Be sure to reserve a spot today and plan on arriving early when visiting.
