Shadows of the Ivory
A Woman’s Incredible Journey to Learn About a Life Lost Halfway Around the World
For many of us, travel is about personal growth and finding oneself. That is surely the case with Maryline Anna Roux. Raised in France, Maryline knew very little of her past which was never talked about. Born in Cote D’Ivore, much of her life remained a secret. All she knew for sure was that she left her birthplace after one year through a trade. Her French father had gifted her African grandparents a rifle and a sewing machine leading her to believe she had been tossed aside by her mother, traded like goods much like the ivory trade that plagues the area.
Many years later, Maryline sets out on a quest to find her birth mother and unravel the mystery surrounding her early years. In her memoirs, she documents her incredible journey deep into the heart of Africa and into her soul. It is a heartfelt story full of love and emotion, loss and sorrow. I recently had the privilege and honor of helping edit Maryline’s memoir and highly recommend it.
Note: A portion of all sales go to support Maryline’s African village, Vieux-Badien with building a hospital, a new school, and a sports facility.
